The challenge of studying and working at the same time

February 28th 2023

Studying and working part-time can be a great challenge, but it can also be an excellent tool for learning how to balance your financial and educational responsibilities. In this blog, I will give you some of my tips from my experience managing these two activities, so that you can be successful in both.

1. Organise your time
Time is always a valuable resource, but especially when it comes to working and studying simultaneously. To ensure that you are using your time effectively, it is important that you organise your activities. Personally, one of the best tips I can offer is to work on organisation - make a list of all the tasks you have to do in your day. Then, plan how you will allocate your time to accomplish all of them. You can also use tools such as diaries or productivity apps to help you stay organised. It is worth noting that this will help you to keep your focus on the tasks you are performing, achieving a better result in these tasks.

2. Communicate your needs
If you are working and studying at the same time, it is likely that you will need to make adjustments to your work schedule in order to attend classes or complete your academic tasks. It is very important that you can establish a trusting and honest relationship with your superiors, as this way it will not be a problem to communicate your needs. Express your needs, offer different solutions to these needs, argue how you would organise your working day, express your motivation to continue working, etc. Having a good rapport with your superiors will make it easier for you to reach common solutions, so that you can continue to play a good role both in your job and in relation to your studies.

3. Set realistic goals
This is perhaps one of the most complex factors for me personally, as it is sometimes difficult for us to realise that we will not be able to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. For this reason, I think it is very important to set realistic goals, as this way you will avoid situations of overload and work stress. . Set specific and achievable goals, work steadily towards them, and you will see how the results just keep coming!

4. Make the most of your free time
When you work and study at the same time, free time can be limited. Make sure you make the most of any free time you have to study or do academic work. While it is very important to have time off to rest and relax, it is also important to use your free time productively. For example, if you have a break at work, use that time to read or take notes.

5. Keep a proper balance

Finally, it is important to maintain a proper balance between work and study. Of course, it is necessary to dedicate time and effort to both activities, however, it is also important to have time off to relax and do other activities. Try to maintain a healthy balance between work, study and free time to ensure that you are taking care of your well-being and mental health.
