Sant Jordi: Discover the talent behind the pages

April 18th 2023

Sant Jordi's Day is coming up! One of the most important days for Barcelona. If you're a book lover, it's the perfect day to immerse yourself in the world of literature. April 23rd is a very special date that gives you the opportunity to enjoy the Catalan culture, with the streets full of people, and that's why we want to present you some plans and recommendations for you to enjoy this festivity to the fullest.

What to do in Barcelona?

Barcelona shines again with Sant Jordi, and this year, in a big way! The city will celebrate the 23rd of April by filling its streets with book stalls and rose stalls, and offering various activities to experience the day of the book in the most beautiful way and as close to the city as possible.

More than 300 book and rose stalls

This year, the 2022 literary superblock plan, which consists of cutting off most of the city's main streets from vehicle traffic to make them pedestrianised and thus place more book stops and stalls, will continue to be implemented. The streets that will form part of the literary superblock are between Gran Vía and Avinguda Diagonal, Pau Claris and Balmes. And this year, after a four-year hiatus, La Rambla will once again be used as a sales point for roses and books.

Author signings

As is tradition, hundreds of authors will be signing their books for readers at stands around the center of Barcelona, most of them located in the Sant Jordi superblock. The authors will be there from early in the morning and will pass through different parts of the city. Among the authors are Elisabet Benanvent and Javier Castillo.

Open doors

To give you the chance to surround yourself with culture, Barcelona is opening its doors free of charge to some of its most emblematic buildings. These include the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, Barcelona City Hall and the Palau Güell, among others. Also, to celebrate the day, all those who receive the name Jordi or Jordina, have free access to the Sagrada Familia.

Musical Sant Jordi

At the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm, you'll find a space full of music, with stalls selling books, records and vinyls, and areas dedicated to signings and concerts throughout the day on the 23rd from 12 noon onwards.   More than 20 artists will be on stage, including 31FAM, Els catarres, and Sergi Carbonell.
