March 1st 2022

The cover letter is the tool that will allow you to communicate to the recruiter or consultant the knowledge you have of the company you are applying to, as well as your interest and your desire to work for them. In addition, you should also include your qualifications for the job. Cover letters are a great help to accompany your CV. In the following, we show you how to create a good cover letter.

A cover letter has several functions: on the one hand, it accompanies the CV and on the other hand, it allows you to complement it. In addition, the secondary functions are the following; thanks to a cover letter you can: tell the company what kind of position you are looking for, generate interest in the recruiter to get to know you, demonstrate your knowledge of the business sector and briefly show the knowledge and training you have.

Some tips for a good cover letter are as follows. Firstly, brevity highlight your CV and professional experience and be clear and concise. It should not exceed 4-5 paragraphs. You should demonstrate the requirements for the job and attach documentation on a single sheet of paper.

Secondly, a letter should be formal, you should use a cordial tone and always address it as "you". You should express yourself in the same way as if you were in a face-to-face interview.

Finally, it is ideal that you write your cover letter on a computer, using the same typeface you used for your CV and without spelling mistakes. You must be original and try to position and differentiate yourself from the rest so that your application is taken into account.

Even if you decide to send several CVs, when considering how to write a cover letter you must remember that it is always addressed to a different company, which is looking for a specific profile, for this reason you should never write a standard cover letter but personalise them according to the offer/company. You should also bear in mind that if you are a student without experience, you should write the content highlighting your skills and competences in order to stand out from the rest of the candidates.
