How to make a good Video CV

May 31st 2022

If you are in the process of looking for a job, this article will be for your interest!

In a context dominated by Instagram and Youtube, we can get the idea that the image and the audiovisual format are becoming more and more valuable. Although some multinationals were already using virtual interviews, now the possibility of being asked for a video CV is becoming more and more common.

The aim of these videos is not only to make the job easier for recruiters, but also to offer them a video presentation in which you as an applicant have the opportunity to show your creativity, self-confidence, risk-taking, decisiveness, social skills, your communication skills, language skills, and of course show how well you know how to make different and original content.

If you don't want to go unnoticed, prepare a pen and paper and start structuring, here is a guide:

  1. Introduction (10-20 seconds), start by introducing yourself with basic information such as who you are, what you do and what type of job or areas.
  2. Work experience (20-40 seconds) is the moment to mention your most relevant jobs, responsibilities, achievements and goals reached.
  3. Educational background (20-40 seconds) emphasize the last degree you have obtained or the most relevant to the area you are applying for.
  4. Added value (20-40 seconds), dedicate this space to show your personality and extra information, as well as what you can contribute to the company.
  5. Farewell (10-20 seconds), end with a call to action showing your email address, your 5. networks and a cordial farewell.

Think of this as a face-to-face interview, be prepared, sound authentic, be confident and make the best first impression. Sit in a quiet, well-lit place with a pleasant background. Place your camera, mobile or laptop at eye level and make sure you have good light.

Record, play, correct. And, repeat it several times - eventually, you will get the version that best identifies you!
